Gabriela Wale Soto

I am a MA in Applied Linguistics student at UCL, developing my interest in understanding the role of language in the creation and perpetuation of social inequalities. Currently completing my research project in investigating university students’ lived experience of the promise of employability and success. Under the rationale of neoliberalism, I problematise the marketisation of the idea of whiteness and its impact in reproducing racial inequalities. Seeking to continue transforming these ideas further in a PhD project.

I trained in Education and History with a BA from University of Aberystwyth and subsequently spent 5 years as a Modern Foreign Languages teacher in a secondary school in Oxford, specializing in Spanish and French.

I am a science researcher with an interest in bridging science with the social sciences to understand the sociology of science to challenge institutional inequalities. To this aim, I am dabbling in the Art and Humanities as a part-time MA student in Language, Culture and History, at  UCL where I am aiming to transform my work into activism.

I have a background in basic science with an MSc in Immunology from Imperial College and PhD in Medicine from University of Nottingham. Post PhD I was a secondary school Biology teacher in Oxford for 3 years before I returned to academia providing technical support in exciting projects such as Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Alzheimer Disease and now Arthritis.
